I recently came across some Zegna ads from 1968 and noticed some style similarities to the fashion of today. 

Here we have an tweed sport with a oversized Glen plaid, using burgundy as its complimentary color. Hacking (slanted) pockets and welt stitching are also some jacket treatments we see in today's menswear fashion. 

Well the cigarette not so much, but a three-piece suit with a ticket pocket and oversized herringbone pattern are some features you will see on a sartorial suit of today.
